2048 is a single-player block puzzle game designed by Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli. The purpose of this game is to move the numbered tiles on the box to combine them to create a tile with the number 2048. However, one can continue to play the game after reaching the goal, making the tiles with a larger number.

2048 originally written in JavaScript and CSS over the weekend, and released on March 9, 2014, as free and open source software subject to MIT license. Clones written in C and Vala are available. There is also a version for the Linux terminal.

2048 has been described very much like the application of Threes! released a month earlier. Cirulli himself described 2048 as a clone of the Veewo Studios 1024 application, that actually says in the app description to be a clone of Three! me.

Development

19-year-old Cirulli created the game in a week as a test to see if he can program the game from scratch; he was surprised when his game received more than 4 million visitors in less than a week, mainly because it was just a weekend project. "It was a way to pass the time", he said. This game is free to play, Cirulli says that he does not want to make money from "something [he] did not find". He released a free app version of the game for iOS and Android in May 2014.

2048 becomes a viral hit. This game has been described by the Wall Street Journal as "almost like Candy Crush for mathematical experts," and Business Insider /i> on steroids ".

Because source code is available, many additions to the original game, including the scoreboard and the enhanced touch screen playback that has been written by others and then made available to the public. Spinoff has been released online, as an application and for Nintendo 3DS, and includes versions with elements from Doge, Doctor Who, Flappy Bird and Tetris; there is also a 3D version and which has a larger or smaller grid. Cirulli sees this as "part of the beauty of open source software" and does not object to them "as long as they add new creative modifications to the game". In 2014, an unofficial copy of this game is published in the iOS app store by Ketchapp, monetized with ads. It has also been included as an Easter egg in the DuckDuckGo search engine, accessible by typing '2048' or 'Play 2048'.

Gameplay

2048 is played on the grid 4ÃÆ' â € "4 gray, with the numbered tiles gliding smoothly when the player moves it using four arrow keys. Each turn, random new tiles will appear in empty spaces on the board with either 2 or 4 values. The tiles shift as far as possible in the chosen direction until they are stopped by another tile or grid edge. If two tiles of the same number collide while moving, they will merge into tiles with the total value of the two colliding tiles. The resulting tile can not be combined with another tile in the same movement. Tiles with high ratings emit soft light.

The scoreboard at the top right tracks the user's score. User scores start at zero, and increase each time two tiles are combined, with new tile values. Like many arcade games, the user's best score is displayed alongside the current score.

The game is won when a tile with a value of 2048 appears on the board, then that's the name of the game. After reaching the 2048 tiles, players can continue playing (outside tile 2048) to achieve higher scores. When a player has no legal steps (no free space and no adjacent tiles of the same value), the game ends.

Simple game mechanics (only four directions) make it possible to use in a promo video for Myo movement control bracelets, the availability of the code below allows it to be used as a teaching tool for programming, and the second place winner of the coding Contest on Matlab Central Exchange is the AI system that will playing 2048 yourself.

There is also another type of game, called 177147, which is actually used with exponent 3 instead of 2.

Comparison with Flappy Bird

2048 has been compared with Flappy Bird by some commentators. Both are clones of the previous game, with their success leading to further clones, and both games have been described as viral and addictive. JayIsGames compares it to Flappy Bird "but without the irritating annoyance". When asked if he was worried that the situation would end like a stress like Nguy did? N HÃÆ'? ÃÆ''ng, creator of Flappy Bird , Cirulli says that he has "gone through that phase" On a smaller scale, and once he decides not to monetize <2048 , he " stop feeling awkward. "
