Gameplay
The trench is a combination of Castle Attack and Tower Defense set during World War I. The player was incorporated into the role of a Battlefield Commander for British Expeditionary Forces in Western Europe during 1914 against the German Army, or vice versa , and the player must complete a set of missions to complete the game during the campaign. The game lasts throughout the war during the game, allowing the game to open more classes and artillery.
Players must allocate resources and hire units to combat advancing enemy units from the right side of the screen. Units include Riflemen, Machinegunner, Sniper, Engineer, Mortar Team, and randomly spawned Officers who add aura-based benefits to allied units. Players also have access to off-screen artillery support including the High Explosive Bombardment and Poisonous Gas.
The game includes a variety of combat modes that include King of the Trench and Zombie Horde modes, with the combined addition of a competitive and multiplayer co-operative.
