History
Hazelden started in 1949 as a simple farmhouse retreat called the Old Lodge. It's limited to male alcoholics. The original program designed by Lynne Carroll was based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, especially the Twelve Steps. In the first 18 months, 156 men were assisted. In 1953, the Fellowship Club was established as a shelter to provide additional assistance to patients after participating in the Center City program. The Dellwood site was then transferred to the City Center campus.
And Anderson was Hazelden's vice president from 1961 and president between 1971 and 1986. Mark G. Mishek was named Hazelden President and CEO in August 2008, replacing Ellen Breyer. Mishek came to Hazelden from Allina Hospitals & amp; Clinic, where he became President of the United Hospital of St. Paul.
1999 saw the opening of the School of Addiction Studies at Hazelden in the City Center.
