Anonymous Families ( FA ) is a twelve-step program for relatives and friends of addicts. The FA was founded in 1971 by a group of parents in Southern California who are concerned about their children's substance abuse. In 2007 there were FA meetings in more than 20 countries and about 225 regular meetings in the United States. A survey of the FA group in Lisbon, Portugal found that most of its members were women, 45-60 years old, and mothers of children who abuse substance.

The FA's focus is to support members rather than changing the behavior of their friends or relatives with substance abuse issues. Hard love is suggested as an approach used when dealing with addicts - members do not need to rescue addicts from the consequences of problems that the addict has created, and members should be willing to offend addicts if necessary. One study suggests a therapeutic effect of participation including the internalization process of shared stories and information, rationalization and freedom from guilt about perpetrator behavior, and Traditions that protect anonymity that allow members to reduce the potential stigma gained from membership.

Original FA Literature includes the book Today a Better Way about the principles of the FA program, newsletter, Twelve Step Rag , as well as some pamphlets and booklets.
