Histori

Bethany University is the oldest of the institutions of the Assemblies of God in higher education. The institute was founded in 1919 as the Happy Bible Bible Institute in 1280 Webster Street, San Francisco, to be a training school for the city's ministries conducted by Robert and Mary Craig. He moved to Scotts Valley in 1950, and in 1955 became Bethany Bible College and in 2005 Bethany University.

Enrollment during the 2010-11 academic year dropped to about 400 students, declining from over 500 in previous years. The university also reduced the number of its faculty to 22 full-time lecturers and 50 additional lecturers in its final years. On June 13, 2011, the university announced that it would close effectively immediately for financial reasons and low registration.

Shortly after the closing announcement, a San Francisco-based Christian organization, Olivet University, announced that they would hire Bethany campus and hold classes there, with the intention of obtaining the Bethany campus and the complex of the former Borland Software complex nearby. for its worldwide headquarters, but the transaction failed until May 2012; Olivet emptied the Bethany campus at the time and remained in San Francisco. The Bethany campus building and grounds are set up for sale by the regional leader of the Assemblies of God denomination. It has been rebuilt as a 1440 Multiversity site, a health and fitness retreat and an education center run by the 1440 Foundation, started by Scott Kriens and his wife.
