David Drew Pinsky (born September 4, 1958), commonly known as Dr. Drew , is an American celebrity physician who is a board certified internal physician, addiction drug specialist, and media personality. She hosted national radio talk show Loveline since the beginning of the show in 1984 until the end of 2016. On television, she hosted a talk show. Drew On Call at HLN, and held the Daytime Lifechangers series on The CW. In addition, she served as a producer and starred in the VH1 Celebrity Rehabilitation show with Dr Drew, and her spinoff was Rehab Sex with Dr Drew Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House > and hosted podcasts on the Adam Carolla podcast network.
Pinsky is also Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, former Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Addiction Services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, California, a staff member at Huntington Memorial Hospital, and private practitioner.

Pinsky was born in Pasadena, California. His father, Morton Pinsky (1925-2009), was a doctor whose parents emigrated from Ukraine. In 1984, while still a medical student, Pinsky began appearing on "Ask a Surgeon", a segment of the KROQ-FM event on Sunday night hosted by Jim "Poorman" Trenton and "Sweden" Egil Aalvik. "Ask the Surgeon" immediately combined with "Loveline", another Sunday night segment, into a show of his own, held jointly by Trenton and Pinsky. Loveline became national in 1995, and the television version was launched on MTV the following year, hosted by Pinsky and Adam Carolla. Radio and television exposure made Pinsky "Gen-X's answer to Dr. Ruth Westheimer, with an AIDS-era message, sex-safe." The MTV show lasts four years, while the radio show continues until April 2016 with Mike Catherwood cohost.
On November 27, 2007, Pinsky started Dr. Drew Live , another national syndicated radio talk show where she focuses on a broader range of health issues. It originated from KGIL in Los Angeles, initially airing a working day from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. PT Performances were canceled in December 2008.
On January 5, 2015, Pinsky launched a new workday program, "Dr Drew Midday Live with Mike Catherwood," at KABC in Los Angeles.
On April 21, 2016, Pinsky announced Loveline will finish on April 28, 2016. Adam Carolla rejoined him as co-host for the final show.
Television
Pinsky's first television appearance was as a contestant in Wheel of Fortune in 1984, though he did not win. He also served as "health and human relations expert" in the first season of US TV series Big Brother in 2000.
He also hosted several shorter educational television series, beginning with Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew , which runs for 10 episodes on the Discovery Health Channel, followed by Drew Drew that deals with everyday health issues. She later hosted the MTV series of Sex... with Mom and Dad (2008-2009).
In 2008, Pinsky starred in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew , a reality television show involving celebrities at a drug rehab facility. The show was filmed at the Pasadena Recovery Center, with Pinsky serving as a resident medical expert. The series aired on January 10, 2008 at VH-1, and has been updated for several seasons. The follow-up show for Celebrity Rehabilitation with many of the same celebrities is Sober House, which started its first season in January 2009, and included celebrities from the first two seasons of Celebrity Rehab i> continue their recovery at a simple living facility. In November 2009, Pinsky starred in the Celebrity Rehab spinoff, Rehab Sex with Dr.Drew , which portrays celebrities who were treated for three weeks of sexual addiction at the Pasadena Recovery Center.
Pinsky makes guest appearances on various news programs where he usually gives his observations on the relationship between controlled substances and high profile individuals. He often gives his views on the deaths of people like Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson, arguing that their fate should set an example of the seriousness of drug abuse.

In 1999, Pinsky founded an internet-based community and teens suggestion site called DrDrew.com with Curtis Giesen. Among their early supporters was Garage.com. DrDrew.com soon ran out of funds, and the company was sold to Sherwood Partners Inc., the company's restructuring company, which sold its remains to DrKoop.com in November 2000. Pinsky bought the site back in 2013 and began using public information about the book her radio, TV shows, and her independent podcast hosting, Dr Drew Podcast. In September 2012, Pinsky announced at The Adam Carolla Show that he will be podcasting on the Carolla Digital network.
In 2003, Pinsky wrote Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again, recounting his experience as Medical Director of the Department of Chemical Addiction Services at drug rehabilitation clinic Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, California. He also contributed to the book. When Painkillers Become Dangerous: What Everyone Should Know About OxyContin and Other Prescription Drugs, published in 2004.

Personal life
Pinsky married on July 21, 1991, and he and his wife, Susan Sailer, had triplets Douglas, Jordan, and Paulina in November 1992.
Pinsky lives in Pasadena, California. Interested in fitness since the early teens, he went running and did weight training on a regular basis. In addition to his hobby of traveling, he also likes to sing opera, because his mother is a professional singer. Pinsky stated on June 24, 2009 that Loveline episode that at one point, he was torn between practicing medicine and becoming a professional opera singer. Pinsky stated that he auditioned for a celebrity event, but the show passed on his performance when he explained to the producer that he could not sing pop songs, but did an aria on Change Ben Stein On .
Pinsky's father, Morton, died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage on October 27, 2009. A title card at the end of season 3 of Celebrity Rehab presented an episode for him. Mrs. Pinsky, Helene, died on June 7, 2017 at the age of 91.
Pinsky is a Jew knows nothing; he admits to abandoning most of the Jewish practice but claims to defend his desire to continue learning about religion. He explained that the study of religion and philosophy affected his medical practice and his speech, and that his background placed "indirect staining on every answer."
In September 2013, Pinsky revealed that he had recovered from a prostate cancer surgery performed earlier in June and July, after which Pinsky did not require chemotherapy or radiation.
In an interview on Kevin and Bean, Pinsky has stated he will talk to any media outlets including TMZ and The National Enquirer, but will not talk to Los Angeles The Times, explaining "They twist, and they are misleading, and they take things out of context." I was really amazed at how bad their journalism was, so I stopped talking to them.
