The Internet Addiction War (Chinese: ???? ) is an anti-censorship machinima advocacy production on behalf of the mainland Chinese community World of Warcraft , which is aesthetically famous for being made entirely in the style of the universe. The protest against Internet censorship in China was first uploaded by a video maker dubbed "Corn Section" to Tudou.com, within days of its release, the site was banned from some PRC video sites such as Youku.com, but since then there have been chords with the public which is wider outside the gaming community, eventually becoming more popular online than Avatar .
This 64 minute video expressed frustration of mainland Chinese players woW restricted to mainland servers and presented their normal complaints and feelings to the real world, as they are often marginalized as Internet addicts living in cyberspace. Although the video was considered bold and rebellious by the Chinese government, this video won the Best Video award in the 2010 Tudou Video Film award.
Video War of Internet Addiction
Themes and main players
The agit-prop video vigorously quipped the mainland Chinese WoW players during the second half of 2009 using personification techniques; This game serves as a platform and framing device. Many of the conflicts and issues covered include: electrical shock therapy for a recognized Internet addiction; the Chinese government's efforts to censor the internet with mandatory installation of the Green Dam Youth Escort filter; corporate battle between PRC's two main game servers, The9 and Netease, about licensing rights updates; and finally, the bureaucracy in the battle between the government organs, the General Administration of Press and Publications and the Ministry of Culture, mastered the game. Along the way video also satirizes and/or parodies various Internet metaphors, memes, jokes, jokes and cliches that are specific to, and endemic, Chinese net culture as well as certain elements of American pop culture. (A clear takeover of certain aspects of the Terminator franchise, for example, lists the main actions of the story, but at one point the main character engages in poetic battles by doing dozens in Chinese verses.) Furthermore, given the political production of satire by the game machine, Count of Internet Addiction, not only as heir to the tradition of romance ÃÆ' clef, but as an influential Maps War of Internet Addiction
Tim Tiger Machinima Oil
This is the third film by Tim Oil Tiger Machinima, which was released on January 21, 2010. Two days later it was banned on all major Chinese video sharing websites.
During the interview, Corndog producers (China: ????) stated that up to 100 people were involved in production and it took three months to make and spend zero dollars, because all the staff were volunteers.
Corndog explained that since the production team were all born in the 1980s, they all grew up playing computer games. They specifically choose online games as their medium for economic reasons, because outdoor activities involve higher costs. The superior quality of World of Warcraft plus the emphasis on teamwork all give them a sense of belonging.
In another interview, Corndog said that he had made a video for his fellow WoW players and that he did not expect him to resonate with a wider audience. That said, "The last part of the video is moving a lot of people, including those who do not play games, because we really live in the same society and we face the same Internet environment," he said in an email response to a question from a Phoenix Phoenix TV reporter. then. A strong response "should make the decision makers reflect."
All videos use World of Warcraft (WoW) on-line graphics and characters and include audio (theme music from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Bells of Freedom BonJovi) added by game enthusiasts from Taiwan and mainland China.

Blue lighting
Near the beginning (and in some later scenes) there is a blue lighting accompanied by a low-pitched humer transformer sound, a shadow of electro-shock therapy offered by Yang Yongxin, which eventually proves to be archvillain pieces.
Room 13
In the video there is a discussion of the torture chamber under the name of Room 13, where hospitality and evil Uncle Yang will apply electric shock therapy to WoW players to heal them from their "internet addiction".
Kannimei's Speech
Near the end of Kannimei's video rebel leader, the blue-skinned minotaur, giving a long, passionate speech (basically breaking the fourth wall) about the hostile censorship environment faced by WoW players, a speech that really drives some gamers to tears. Selective translation:
"When we work hard all day to go back to the apartment with a monthly rent of 2,000 RMB, we face such a distorted version (game as a fight for the survival of interest), all we can feel is helplessness. You make no mistake, yes, we spoiling, but not in the game itself, the feeling of belonging, and the friendship of four years and entrusting (in this virtual community we can not give up)... We persevered no matter what.
"We know it's impossible, but we still swim tirelessly to the North Pole, to the edge of the map (global), to a place where there is no water, but we still can not see the ice plane! In the past year, Saya, others who like this game, diligently go to work on a busy bus, diligently consume all kinds of food regardless of unknown chemicals (they may contain) We never complain that our wages are low, we do not Never lose our mental balance because of the big houses you buy with the money you take out of my little wages. We mourn and cry because of the floods and earthquakes, we rejoice and cheer for manned and Olympic space flight From our heart, we never want to miss another country in the world, but this year, because of you we can not even play the games we love wholeheartedly with in others around the world.
"We swallowed all the humiliation (because we were forced to go to overseas servers and cause inconvenience to other gamers.) Why can not we be entertained at a cheap rate of 40 cents an hour? Just because we're here?
"You taught me since my childhood that the house of gold or silver is never as good as my fallen house, but what is the reality? You force me to stay temporarily in my own country Why is it so hard to give me to live in my own country spiritually? You are called Owner Brick (??, a homophone for, an expert) and Shouting Beasts (??, a homophone for, professor), there is not enough eulogy, cosmetics and anesthesia? Everyday, you have nothing other than to enjoy prestigious social status You and pointed us from a well-founded place.Have you ever wondered why five million gamers collectively take this Net poison (as you describe us addicted to virtual gaming), and deep-rooted social reasoning is covered? We naively believe that here there is only a garden, we can touch the ideal if we work hard enough. When we look to the server at the top of the pyramid , we are forced to withhold the Happiness given from you. We retreat to the so-called freeest Internet on earth, communicate at low cost, and salve the pain in everyday life with the game. Just like this, but they, for their sake, exploit in every possible way...
"We are so used to silence, but silence does not mean to give in. We can not stop shouting just because our voices are low, we can not do anything just because our strength is weak It's okay to be censured, it's okay, misunderstood , it's okay to miss, but it's just that I do not want to keep quiet anymore. "
After this cri du coeur Kannimei switched to in-game styles and called other WoW players to signal their defiance by raising their hands to add their energy to fighting robots like archvillain Yang Yongxin (who has rejected calls with an ironic floral tone with "Good speech - but not useful.") Kannimei once again speaks to his fellow players all over World of Warcraft: "Please raise your hand I need your strength," he said. "When they block YouTube, you do not act, when they block Twitter, you do not act." The climax is a mixture of Dragonball-Z and Martin Niem̮'̦ller. Uncle Yang killed, but his oppressive spirit continues to live; in the fictional Skynet epilogue is, in a final crossover, strongly hinted at being analogous to the real PRC Green Dam Youth Escort.
