Rhona Goskirk is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale , played by Zoe Henry. He made his first screen appearance during the episode aired on September 17, 2001. The character was introduced by producer Steve Frost series and appeared in 2001 and 2002. He returned to Emmerdale as a full-time character in March 2010, introduced back by series producer Gavin Blyth. She has gone through the storyline including giving birth to Leo Goskirk, who has Down's Syndrome, marrying Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), becoming addicted to painkillers, discovering Paddy's infidelity with his friend Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson) after his last death, pursuing a manipulative relationship with widower of Tess Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather), he almost died in the greatest act of soap known as "No Return Week" and marital rape at the hands of Pierce.

Casting
Henry joined Emmerdale cast as Rhona Goskirk in 2001 for the first seven episodes. The actress returned in 2002 for another brief assignment, departing in December. On February 13, 2010, Kris Green of Digital Spy reported that Henry had imitated her role and Rhona would return to Emmerdale at the end of the year.

Storylines
2001-2002
Rhona first appeared in the village in September 2001 as locum, helping Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and covers for Zoe Tate (Leah Bracknell), while she was on vacation. He and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) began dating as his ex-boyfriend, Tricia Fisher (Sheree Murphy), has left him and the village. However, Tricia returns and Rhona leaves shortly after. Rhona returned in June 2002 to cover up Zoe because she was unable to work, because she was mentally ill. He and Marlon immediately resume their relationship and realize that they have several interests in common, including Laurel and Hardy's film and design. When Tricia found out, she was furious but Rhona went away again in December.
2010 -
Rhona returned in 2010, covering for Paddy after her adopted son Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) attacked him. Rhona stayed for a few weeks and clashed with receptionist Pearl Ladderbanks (Meg Johnson), as she wanted to protect Paddy. He later revealed that in his absence, Rhona was married and divorced. Rhona completes her contract and leaves but returns when Paddy needs to take care of Aaron, after a suicide attempt. Since no one knows how long Aaron will recover, Rhona stays with Andy Sugden (Kelvin Fletcher) and Ryan Lamb (James Sutton) but moves on to Marlon, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) and Lizzie Lakely (Kitty McGeever). She leaves when she realizes that she is in love with Paddy. He confesses at Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) that his relationship with Paddy becomes difficult and seriously considering leaving so Laurel tells Paddy to solve the problem before leaving.
Rhona finds her expecting Marlon's baby. When he learned that the baby had Down syndrome, he considered termination but decided not to after talking to Hazel Rhodes (Pauline Quirke). On February 1st, he scans and discovers that the sonographer is an old school friend, Stephanie Ray, and he tells Paddy and Marlon that Rhona is so rebellious when he's at school. Rhona tried to set Marlon and Stephanie but she was not interested. Marlon decides that they should try yoga pregnancy and Rhona agrees but decides to go it alone, because Marlon is very annoying. He performed another scan in March and was told everything was fine but was very worried that they were visiting a Downs Syndrome support group. In April, she and Paddy informed Aaron about her baby's condition and were touched by her reaction. He gets Braxton Hicks Contraction twice before giving birth to a boy they call Leo.
Rhona starts making plans for submission. However, Paddy is drunk and Rhona can not do it. Paddy tells Rhona that she feels marriage is not necessary but proposes when she feels guilty and she accepts. Paddy was offered a job in New Zealand and he and Rhona agreed to leave but Marlon refused to let them take Leo. As a result, Paddy and Rhona ask Marlon to go with them and he agrees but then changes his mind. Rhona told Marlon that she was still taking Leo but Marlon told them that she had taken legal action to stop them. After much debate between Rhona and Laurel about bringing Leo to New Zealand, Rhona and Leo leave but Paddy must remain after being arrested for attacking a police officer. Rhona and Leo return after Marlon tells Paddy to tell Rhona to return voluntarily or be forced to return because they have another court date. The Rice license to practice as a veterinarian was suspended for his arrest so that Rhona's old friend, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), helped but she annoyed Paddy. However, Vanessa buys part in the operation and when Paddy can return, she, Rhona and Vanessa all have their names over the door.
Rhona's life got worse when she became addicted to pain medication prescribed for back injuries. Like many addicts, his personality changes and he becomes aggressive. Vanessa sees Rhona storming into an operating medicine cabinet, warning her about the punishment if she gets caught. Rhona apologizes and hides while Leo cries in his bed. Vanessa saw this and was surprised by Rhona's condition. She tells him that Leo is fine before giving him a pill to make him feel better. This helps initially but Rhona's dependence worsens dramatically. Vanessa tries to help Rhona wean her from the painkiller and confesses that she has fallen in love with Rhona. Rhona initially rejected her affinity before giving up when Vanessa is now her dealer but also buying drugs from a dealer named Gary. Paddy and the others suspect Rhona's strange behavior. Rice checks his phone and sees that he contacted Gary and lied about where he was going. When he confronts her and grabs her cell phone, Rhona shouts and attacks Paddy before asking her to leave. However, Rhona's addiction leads him to put himself and others in danger as when visiting different pharmacies to get painkillers, he and Laurel are hijacked by Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Rhona is also unaware of the damage that drugs do to her body and only realizes when she is rushed to hospital after collapsing. The doctor tells him that his kidney will collapse so that Marlon, feeling Paddy should take care of Rhona, removes Leo. Losing his son's residence and attending rehab helps Rhona get and stay clean.
After Vanessa took her son, Johnny, home from the hospital, Rhona realized that she wanted another baby. Since she was not pregnant again, she decided to adopt and discuss it with Paddy. He agrees and the references chosen by Paddy and Rhona include Aaron, the teacher of Pearl and Leo, Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson). Tess befriends Rhona and tells her that she is in love with a married man. Rhona pushes Tess to look for her, saying that life is too short but after Tess died, Rhona learns that Rice is the man who married Tess. Rhona initially insisted on doing as usual but soon realized that she and Paddy could not stay together, let alone adopt a child, because things were so bad among them that they did not realize that Leo was ill in April.
In March 2016, Rhona informs Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather), Tess' widower, that Paddy is Tess's lover so Pierce presses Paddy. Later, Rhona finds Aaron and Chas know that Paddy is having an affair. Not long after, Rhona was involved with Pierce who kept a dark secret. Initially his friends and family consider this a bad idea but come when they see that Pierce and Rhona are happy together. In October, after Rhona and Pierce argue, she goes camping with Paddy, Marlon, and Leo. However, Pierce arrives and they argue again. After Pierce leaves, Paddy and Rhona chase after him and get involved in the pile, which is caused by Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney) pushing her husband, James, off a bridge. Rhona and Paddy are badly injured but they all survive and Rhona continues her relationship with Pierce.
In January 2017, Rhona and Pierce's rough relationship took a more sinister turn when Pierce tried to have sex with Rhona, believing she was aroused. Rhona insists she's not in the mood, though Pierce ignores him and tries to seduce her. Outside the screen, they had sex, and in another scene soon after acting, Rhona seemed silent and confused, in contrast to Pierce's sparkle, leaving a question mark whether Rhona had agreed sex. Although Pierce forced himself again, she agreed to marry him on Valentine's Day, even though she had shared a kiss with Paddy. Pierce overheard Rhona and Paddy discussing the kiss, not realizing that Pierce had heard it; On her wedding day Paddy hands Rhona's necklace to her mother and she and Pierce are married. Pierce shows Rhona's information from the Lake District veterinarian's lease, but Rhona is surprised he gets it without discussion and, when Pierce suggests Rhona is nothing more than Paddy, Rhona admits he is drunk kissing Paddy. She insults him so he tries to escape from home, however, Pierce drags him back home and jealously tears the necklace. Pierce picked him up on the floor before raping her. He tries to divert mistakes to Rhona but, by pretending to bathe, Rhona is shocked to run away from home, go to the police station and report his rape. Rhona was taken to the Sexual Assault Reference Center, where she was examined. Rhona leaves during the interview and tells Pierce to get out or he'll call the police. Rhona almost confessed in Marlon, then, after placing Leo into bed, he rested on the stairs. Pierce said things would be worse if he told the police.
Reception
In August 2017, Henry was listed as Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards. The nomination made a list of elected voters, though Henry lost to Lucy Fallon, who described Bethany Platt at Coronation Street .
