Biography

Born as Peretz Bernstein in Queens, New York City, New York, he spent his elementary school years at Woodmere, Long Island, and moved to Miami, Florida, with Jewish families during his teens. His father was a jeweler and his mother was an artist who committed suicide when Farrell was three, an event later recorded in Jane's addiction songs, "Then She Did" and "Twisted Tales". According to Howard Stern's interview on June 3, 1997, Farrell believes strangers visit him and he accepts the knowledge and spirituality they bring.

Early musical influences included The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Sly & amp; Stone Family and James Brown. Soon after, he found David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. After graduating from high school, Farrell moved to California in the early 1980s to live as a surfer. There, he lives in his car and makes money working the construction and waiting tables. Farrell has been seen in major surf destinations around the world, especially in Bali, in 2001.

He has a son, the jubilee, with ex-girlfriend Christine Cagle. In 2002, Farrell married Etty Lau Farrell, a professional dancer and singer who has performed on all Jane's Addiction shows since the 1997 Relapse tour. The couple now have two sons, Hezron Wolfgang and Izzadore Bravo.

Music career

Psi Com (1981-1985)

He became a frontman for Psi Com's Post-punk band in Los Angeles, and traveled in a larger community of regional musicians including band X, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, and Minutemen. Psi Com broke up around 1985 and Farrell met Eric Avery through the same friends. Both start a jam session that will be the initial foundation for Jane's Addiction. It was during this period that Bernstein chose Perry Farrell's alias for himself as a "peripheral" play.

Jane's Addiction (1985-1991, 1997, 2001-2004, 2008-present)

Jane's Addiction made her name in the mid 1980s LA by building a fanatical fan base with legendary, high energy shows at small LA rock clubs. Jane's Addiction, before their first breakup, released three Jane's Addiction albums, Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual . The B-sides album of the Ritual session, titled Live and Rare was released in Japan. By the end of 1991, Jane's Addiction had dispersed because of internal tensions over the different ideologies that were mostly centered on drug use, especially Farrell's severe addiction to heroin. Around this time, as mentioned in SPIN Magazine article (1991 Vol.7 Num. 3) about their "Ritual" tour, rumors circulated that Farrell had contracted HIV. Apparently for entertainment, Farrell will tease an audience with "news" about his health and will not confirm or deny the truth. In 1993 Farrell and his ex-girlfriend, Casey Niccoli released a movie titled Gift featuring Jane's Addiction. Prizes released by Warner Brothers. In 1997, Jane's Addiction reformed for a short reunion tour with Flea replacing Avery on bass. The "Relapse Tour" is supported with the release of Kettle Whistle , a rare album featuring four new songs.

Farrell is sometimes credited with changing the fate of the Festival of Music and Art Coachella Valley. After the first year of disaster festival in 1999, the event was not held in 2000. In 2001, the decision was made to organize the festival again, but just a few months before the festival was held, there was still no headlining group. Farrell, who is friends with the festival organizers, decided to reunite Jane's addiction to the 2001 event, which helped attract many people and allowed the festival to make a profit (which did not happen in 1999). It started the Coachella tradition to unite at least one major artist every year.

Farrell toured again with Jane's Addiction in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, Jane's Addiction released the album Strays . It quickly became one of their best selling records and earned gold certificates in the US and silver in the UK. They toured extensively in North America and Europe, bringing Lollapalooza back for the first time since 1997, and performing at Big Day Out festivals in Australia and New Zealand. Internal struggle saw the band split again in early 2004. The release of "Best Of" after the breakup of the band's incarnation was released in 2006, titled Up from the Catacombs .

Four original members of Jane's Addiction played their first show together in 17 years at the first US NME Awards on April 23, 2008 and played two small shows in Los Angeles during Winter 2008. The band was the first American band to receive the " God Like Genius ". Addition Jane's reunited debuted at SXSW in 2009 and began a summer tour with Nine Inch Nails. Eric Avery left the band again at the end of 2009, leaving Farrell, Navarro, and Perkins as members of the rest of Jane's Addiction. The band with Dave Sitek on bass released The Great Escape Artist in 2011 and has continued the tour. Porn for Pyros (1992-1998)

After the breakup of Jane's Addiction, Farrell formed Porn for Pyros with former bandmate Stephen Perkins as well as newcomers Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass. Together they released two albums, Porn for Pyros and Good God Urgent .

Solo Career (1999-present)

Starting his solo career, Farrell released rev in 1999, a compilation featuring songs from two previous bands as well as two new solo songs. In 2001, he released his debut solo album, Song Yet to Be Sung , whose lyrics were inspired by Kabballah.

Farrell has released a number of online solo songs, all of which were recorded with the involvement of Etty Lau's wife. Their song "Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)" appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Twilight.

Satellite Party (2004-2008)

Farrell formed a new band/theatrical entity called The Satellite Party. Satellite Party is a concept album and is the story of a band of fictional musicians called The Solutionists who are trying to change the world. Farrell compiled the project with his wife, Etty Lau Farrell. Etty sings and plays his part in live recording and stage performances. Satellite Party debuted in Los Angeles at The Key Club on July 18, 2005, followed by a performance at Lollapalooza 2005, held at Grant Park in downtown Chicago on July 24, 2005.

Their debut album, Ultra Payloaded, was released on May 29, 2007, at Columbia Records, with contributions from artists such as John Frusciante and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hybrid electronic dance producer, former Red Hot Chili Peppers/Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, Joy Division/bassist New Peter Hook, and Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas.

The Satellite Party performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival on April 27, 2007. On June 8 they performed at the Download Festival in Donington, England. On June 29 they performed with Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon and Queens of the Stone Age in Rock Werchter, Belgium. Lollapalooza

In 1991, before Jane's Addiction broke up, Farrell, Ted Gardener, and Marc Geiger created the Lollapalooza festival as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction. From its inception until 1997, and its revival in 2003, the festival toured North America. In 2004, the festival organizers decided to expand the date to two days per city, but bad ticket sales forced the tour to be canceled. In 2005, Farrell and William Morris Agency partnered with companies based in Austin, Texas, Capital Sports Entertainment (now C3 Presents) and returned it as a weekend destination festival at Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois.

Kidzapalooza

In 2005, music producer Tor Hyams approached Farrell with the idea to create a children's stage with family friendly rates at Lollapalooza. Kidzapalooza became that year, produced by Hyams and continues to this day with guests like Slash, Patti Smith and LeAnn Rimes performing in the line of artists.

PurimPalooza 2006

In 2006, Farrell appeared in Purimpalooza, celebrating the Purim Jewish holiday. It was a concert for all ages and featured different Jewish musical groups. It happened at Ruby Skye in San Francisco, and featured bands including Moshav, Chutzpah, and Matisyahu.

Working outside music

In December 2001 Farrell flew to Sudan with political problems with other members of Christian International Solidarity to negotiate the liberation of the Sudanese slaves. Jane's addiction contributed their earnings from one concert to the redemption of over 2,300 people. After the exchange agreement was signed, Farrell started a feast of freedom on various redemption sites. "He started dancing and singing," said a colleague; "I'm not sure what's going to happen, but then everybody joins in. Everyone dances, even the Arab dancers join in. It's Christians, Muslims and Jews all dancing together Arab, African, American, and European - all.". Farrell is of Jewish origin.

She joins Tom Morello and the Axis of Justice tour to raise money for the homeless in Los Angeles and together they both physically get rid of the debris in the New Orleans Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina to help local musicians. They also raise funds for the "Recovery of the Way" a New York non-profit organization that helps young people fight with addictions and other misery.

Farrell is an environmentalist. He met British Prime Minister Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street on January 31, 2007, to discuss global warming. She presented Blair with a CD of the Satellite Party song "Woman in the Window".

Farrell plans to become a digital artist only for the next release. He worked with Global Cool in 2007 to help promote green life.

Farrell has worked to bring music festivals to Israel, including Lollapalooza, and Jane's Addiction himself has appeared in Israel. However, the Lollapalooza event failed, with organizers citing financial problems and a lack of talent willing to perform in Israel. Farrell starred and sang at the "Stand with Israel" party held at 7 World Trade Center, just outside Ground Zero in New York City.
